Many remember the legends that were members of The Swanee Quintet, Charlie Barnwell (Founder), Rufus Washington, Willie Bush, James “Big Red” Anderson, William Crawford, Floyd Fouch, Oscar Bing, Ruben Willingham, and Purcell Dunbar.  Other members that aided in fashioning the Swanee’s unique style of gospel music were Johnny Jones, Percy Griffin, Augustus Mims, Johnnie Mims, Clarence Murray and Eddie Bynes.

Percy Griffin, Johnnie Mims and Eddie Bynes are still with the group.  The other current members are Mario Smith, Marciano “M & M” McKie, Charles Green, Colby Weaver and George Drummond.

The Legeacy Continues’ CD contains 11 songs – “Stumble And Fall,” “Christ Is Good To Me,” “Saving Me,” “Prayer Changes Things,” “Let Everything Praise The Lord,” “I Need A Blessing,” “You Can Make It With Jesus,” “Won’t It Be Grand,” “Close To You (Jesus),” “Close To You (Jesus) Reprise,” and the “Swanee’s Medley.”

Several of the songs were written by the late James “Big Red” Anderson.  And, the late Johnny Jones is actually credited with writing the “Swanee’s Medley.”

The current members have stayed true to the style of The Swanee Quintet.  At times, while listening to the CD, you will realize how closely the current members sound to some of the legends of The Swanee Quintet family.

Listen to songs from the CD during the Quartet Mix broadcast at Gloryland Gospel Quartet Radio beginning February 23, 2011.
