The Windy City SpiritualaireS BLACK MUSIC MONTH SPOTLIGHT!

Today we spotlight The Windy City SpiritualaireS of Chicago, Illinois, who are also known simply as “The SpiritualaireS”.  This group features the talents of Pastors and Ministers. The members are Pastor Anthony Spencer, Pastor Tyrone Lindsey, Minister Bobby Webster and Pastor Jonathan Tucker.

They have been performing and sharing their ministry coast to coast together since 1998. They were recognized as one of “The Nation’s New-Wave Top Five Selling Quartets” by The Gospel Music Industry Round-Up.

The Windy City SpiritualaireS have been able to maintain a very busy touring schedule. They have traveled and they still continue to travel across the country to minister in song at many churches, major venues and prestigious events.

The Windy City SpiritualaireS latest recording Live In-Bama was one of the top selling Gospel Quartet releases in 2000. The project was a “Live” recording that took place during the American Gospel Quartet Convention. Special guest artists appearing on the project included Willie Clayton, Minister Teddy Cross, Mary McLaurine-Glover, Big Joe Patton, and Evangelist Chequita Lumzy. In 1998, the group also released a project as “The SpiritualaireS” that received rave reviews. The project was entitled Change In My Life. It is a collection of several hits also written and arranged by Rev. Lindsey, Pastor Tucker, and Pastor Spencer including the very popular title track along with “Make A Change” featuring Minister Teddy Cross, “Pay Attention,” “What A Time” and the inspirational “Your Blessin’ Is Comin’”. This project earned them many National awards, nominations, and accolades.

The group is currently making preparations for a new release and several members of the group have solo projects in the works as well.

This youthful group deserves to be spotlighted as we celebrate Black Music Month.

The Queen of Gospel - Ms. Albertina Walker

The Queen of Gospel, legendary gospel singer Albertina Walker died this morning, October 8, 2010, at 4:30 AM, at RML Specialty Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She was 81. She had been hospitalized in a Chicago since August.

Ms. Walker was born in Chicago. She began singing, as many other great singers, in the choir of her church, West Point Baptist Church. She began singing at the age of 4.

Ms. Walker’s mentor, Mahalia Jackson, encouraged her to pursue a gospel singing career. And, what a career it was. She was an outstanding soloist. She organized The Caravans in 1952. She would go on to obtain worldwide popularity as the initial lead signer for The Caravans.

The gospel music industry and the world have lost an awesome singer and songwriter. In addition she was a an extraordinary humanitarian. She was the embodiment of Gospel Royalty. She will certainly be missed.

Funeral arrangements will be posted here and at Quartet Central Message Board as soon as they are received. Also, see the Press Release from MALACO Group.
