One of the best kept gospel music secret in Virginia is a group called The Virginia Aires. Well, the secret is finally out. And, a lot of the reason for the exposure now is their newest project titled Live.
The Virginia Aires was organized in 1981. Their first album was Come To Far To Turn Around. Other recordings by the group are Live in the Country, Live in the Country Volume 2.
The most recent project, LIVE , actual has a release date of 2009. However, it is just beginning to receive the national attention it rightfully deserves.
As reflected by the title of the project it is the recording of a live concert. It was recorded at the TCC Jeanne and George Roper Performing Arts Center in Norfolk, Virginia. The venue was the perfect setting for the recording. It is not to large and equipped with an outstanding sound system.
Back to the project – There are ten (10) songs on the CD. It beings with the upbeat “Faith – without works is dead.” Other songs on the project are “Drugs – are a trick of the enemy,” “Part Time Christians,” “Thank You,” “If I’ve Got To Praise Him – by my self,” “Psalms 133,” “Oh what a night,” “He looked beyond my faults,” “Don’t you ever give up,” and “Your will.”
The group seems to be very comfortable singing ballads. So, you will find many more ballads on the project than upbeat tempo songs. The closest song to what would be considered a drive is “Oh what a night.”
Overall, Live will have you rejoicing with The Virginia Aires. Listen to songs from the CD during the Quartet Mix broadcast at Gloryland Gospel Quartet Radio beginning January 25, 2011.
