Gloryland Gospel Blog 2010 to 2011 There are only a few weeks left in this year. Overall, it has been a good year for gospel quartet music. As we near the end of 2010, we reached out to several of the labels to get their assessment of 2010 and their insight into what fans of this genre can expect from them in 2011. We begin with MALACO.

According to D. A. Johnson, Executive Director, Gospel Division,

The Malaco Music Group has always been the leader and home of Quartet music leading back to their first ever Gospel artist signing, the number one (1) group of that era, The Jackson Southernaires. Since that time, other Quartet groups followed reaching legendary status. 2010 was an exciting and monumental history making year for The Malaco Music Group as we ushered in a new era of Quartet Gospel artists and reaffirmed our continued dedication and commitment to the Quartet genre.

4 Winds Records / Malaco was launched and released seven (7) CD’s into the marketplace (Castro Coleman & Highly Favored, The Christian Angels, The Alabama Boys, The Golden Wings Quartet, Spencer Taylor & The Highway QC’s, Darrell Luster & Friends, The Original Messengers) along with 1 CD from Air Gospel recording artist, “Mr. Rough Side Of The Mountain,” Rev. F. C. Barnes & Company; 3 of our 8 Quartet releases garnered 5 nominations for the upcoming prestigious 2011 Stellar Awards as well as 3 or our artists making national television appearances on BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel. At the American Gospel Quartet Convention, in Birmingham, we announced the signing and official name changing of Lil Blair & The Fantastic Violinaires to Lil Blair & The Fantastic Heirs. On May, 31, 4 Winds / Malaco recorded 3 artists, 3 CD’s & DVD’ s at the Malaco Memorial Day Live Recording in Rocky Mount, NC. What a year!

Since February 2007, The Malaco Music Group has been declaring the month of February as “National Quartet Month” in honor of the legendary Quartet artists’ contributions to Black History.

This February 2011, National Quartet Month, 4 Winds / Malaco kicks off their celebration with the new CD releases from The Brooklyn Allstars and Lil Blair & The Fantastic Heirs on February 1st along with the new CD and DVD releases from The Sensational Nightingales, The Joy Boyz and long awaited “Live” release from The Jackson Sisters on February 15th . In the 2nd Quarter of 2011, look for the new CD release from Tammy Edwards & The Edwards Sisters.

The Christian AngelsIt is good to know that listeners to Gloryland Gospel Quartet Radio are enjoying the broadcast. What is even more exciting are the numerous requests we receive for music by “your favorite” gospel quartet singer. This month one of the most requested artist is The Christina Angels.

These young ladies were recently signed to the 4 Winds Label. Their new CD is titled Bring It To The Altar. The CD is full of great gospel music. You will not find any weakness to this project. In deed, Radio Angels around the country should enjoy playing this project.

One of the most requested song from the CD is “Jesus, You’re All I Need.” It will immediately have you thinking of great female gospel singers of the quartet gospel genre like Evelyn Turrentine-Agee, Lucile Pope, Maggie Ingram – just to name a few.

Ray Braswell, Jr. was part of the production team for this project. So, it should not be a surprise to anyone that the arrangements and the overall production are outstanding.

The entire CD will be featured from May 24 to 28, 2010, on Gloryland Gospel Quartet Radio as we air another entire week of all female quartet gospel music.
