Thomas Ryhant, Jr.IN THEIR OWN WORDS!

A Tribute to the Legendary Tenors of Gospel

The reason for this project is to commemorate the life and talent of the Tenors of Quartet Music.

As a boy I remembered the excitement that I felt and the gleam in my
eyes as I first saw Isaac Jones of the Violinaires, and “Big Red” of the Swanee Quintet. I was captivated by the big sounds that came out of the mouth of Charles McLain of The Gospelairs, the sharp sounds that came from Author Crumes of the Soul Stirrers, and the smooth sounds from the Mighty Clouds of Joy. I also remembered Johnny Jones of the Swanees, and Jimmy Lee Outler of the Soul Stirrers.

Now that these legends are gone, this project is to remind us of the strong influence these musical giants had on me as a young boy as well as on the world. Songs such as, “Three Pictures of the Lord“ pays tribute to Isaac Jones, and Danny Walker’s “Can’t Refuse“, “Walk Around Heaven” with Paul Beasley, “Rest for the Weary” with Charles McClain, and “Precious Memories” with the Violinaires, all demonstrate to the world the uniqueness of the tenor sound.

Special thanks to Calvin Cloud for the lead in “Jesus You’ve Been Good to Me” and “Rest for the Weary“. Thanks to Christopher Grey and Wesley Hill for singing tenor in “Precious Memories.”

Enlightening Logins MinistryIN THEIR OWN WORDS!

Enlightening Ministry was founded in March 1999 by a vision from God given to Lalisa Logins. Enlightening then consisted of five members, even through their transition in 2003, the group continued to strive in faith with the help of the lord for the better. Many have come and gone, some even on standby to this day to help out when needed. In August of 2009 God had ordained and united Lalisa in marriage to anointed man of God (Pastor David Logins) a formal member of Greg Logins and in Christ out of Newark New York. This allowed the name ENLIGHTENING/LOGINS MINISTRY to be formed an awesome powerful Family Ministry. The songs you hear or have heard are songs that are written or re-arranged by the Logins themselves.

From beginning to present the group has shared the stage with many gospel artist such as; The Exciting Heaven Dee-Etts, Damon Little’s and Nu Beginning, The Soul Stirrers, Lee Williams and The Spiritual QC ‘S, The Violinaires, and The Pilgrim Jubilees, George dean, just to name a few. God’s blessing’s did not stop there, they have traveled and continues today to visit several cities to minister in song on conventions, banquets, talent shows, music fests ,state fairs, and special occasions such as weddings, and funerals. Enlightening Logins Ministry has also completed not 1 but many studio projects, including their new cd single entitled For “Real No Lie, and I’m In Love With Jesus” COMPLETED June 2011.

THE LOGINS CONCLUDE:
“Its Humbling AND IT REALLY SHOWS THAT GOD MESSAGE CAN COME IN ALL KINDS OF PACKAGES. ALL WE CAN SAY IS THAT WE ARE SO THANKFUL TO GOD FOR ALLOWING US TO HELP SPREAD THE GOSPEL TO THE WORLD.

The Fantastic Violinaires - Checker RecordsWhen thinking about Checker Records, the one group that epitomized the powerhouse position of the label during its zenith was THE VIOLINAIRES. The albums that Checker released on The Violinaires are some of the best vintage quartet gospel recordings ever.

Checker Records was actually owned by Chess Records. In 1947, brothers “Leonard and Philip Chess . . . entered into a partnership with Charles and Evelyn Aron in Aristocrat Records. The Arons had just formed Aristocrat Records to record blues, jazz and rhythm & blues.”

“In late 1949, Leonard and Phil Chess purchased the interests of the Arons and became the sole owners of Aristocrat Records. On June 3, 1950, they reorganized the company and changed its name to Chess Records.”

During the 1960’s, Checker released some of the most memorable gospel music by some of the legends of this genre. Some of the groups they recorded were The Bells Of Joy, The Original Five Blind Boys Of Mississippi, The Christland Singers, The Norfleet Brothers, The Harmonizing Four, Aretha Franklin, The Violinaires, The Soul Stirrers, The Meditation Singers, The Cleveland Golden Echos, Alex Bradford, The Salem Travelers and Ernest Franklin.

Checker’s contribution to this genre is immeasurable. Maybe all the gospel artists of Checker would have recorded even if there was not Checker. However, one cannot imagine that the ‘sound’ would have been as rich and lasting without Checker.
